"The
collections have whizzed by, and while the industry never sleeps, the
working days have become marginally shorter and the daylight hours have
become slightly longer. It seems spring has finally sprung.
March kicked off with hundreds of British labels
showcasing collections in Paris, including an edit of the capital’s
brightest designers who travelled to the French capital as part of
LONDON show ROOMS. With brilliant reviews from the critics, the legacy
left by the collections unveiled in London meant that the excitement
surrounding this season’s showrooms was palpable. I’d like to thank all
the participating designers and Sarah Mower who, in addition to hosting a
reception for LsR, is continually discovering, nurturing and
championing our emerging talent worldwide.
The UK’s fashion
industry brings a whole new meaning to ‘Brits abroad’, with creatives
living in Britain showcasing their talents far and wide. From Victoria
Beckham, Jenny Packham and Manolo Blahnik showing in New York, to Stella
McCartney, Roland Mouret, Chalayan, Vivienne Westwood and Gareth Pugh
shows in Paris, the UK is well represented across the global fashion capitals. Later this month the tour of talent continues with a Milan launch of interactive fashion
films created by some of London’s brightest talent including art
director, Remi Paringaux; stylist, Katie Shillingford and make-up
artist, Alex Box for POSTmatter. Maria Grachvogel has been invited to
represent the British fashion industry as part
of GREAT Week in Kuwait while Matthew Williamson has been invited as the
guest of honour for GREAT Week Hong Kong and Macau. Also this March,
iconic British store, Fortnum & Mason will open its doors for the
first time in Dubai. Fortnum’s isn’t our only proud British export – our
very own Suzy Menkes, whose contributions to the fashion
industry have for a long time had local, national and global
significance, is moving to Condé Nast International as international
editor and we wish her all the best.
All this talk of seasons serves as a gentle
reminder that SS15 registration for the next London Collections: Men and
London Fashion Week opens in just two weeks…"
