Foley’s Letter Home Months before he was executed by ISIS, American photojournalist James Foley sent a “letter” home to his family. Doing so required a bit of creativity, as his captors would confiscate any written letters. Foley had a fellow, soon-to-be-freed hostage commit a letter to memory. “Grammy, please take your medicine,” Foley said. “I plan to take you out to Margarita’s when I get home. Stay strong because I am going to need your help to reclaim my life.” The family posted a transcription of the letter on Facebook.

It’s Emmys Night! Because having two major award shows in as many days is something Emmy organizers imagined you wanted, the Primetime Emmy Awards take place tonight in Los Angeles. We’ll be spending the evening watching television’s best get recognized for their hard work. Though, “best” is certainly subjective. Our favorites don’t always win, of course. But if they did, who would they be? Here’s our wish list of winners in some of the major categories: the Emmys as we’d like to see them tonight, but probably won’t.

Mike Brown’s Funeral Mourners, preachers, and family members of Mike Brown gathered in St. Louis for the funeral of the slain 18-year-old. Brown was killed by an officer on August 9, prompting weeks of unrest in Ferguson, Missouri. Reverend Al Sharpton delivered rousing comments at the service. The New York Times,however, came under harsh criticism for describing Brown as “no angel” in a mini-profile.

Huge News for Prince Fans The artist now known as Prince, together has a big announcement he’d like to let you in on: he’s dropping two albums on September 30. The double effort spans a “classic,” Prince-only L.P. paired with a collaboration with his band, 3rdEyeGirl. The former will be called Art Official Age, while the band’s album is titled, Plectrum Electrum. No word yet on future New Girlcameos.
