February
2014 (Indianapolis, IN) – The Hype Magazine CEO Jameelah “Just Jay”
Wilkerson was honored in Feb 2014 by the City of Atlanta City Council
for her entrepreneurial achievement in leading her music and
entertainment magazine outlet onto the national stage as a premier media
outlet. Recognizing her achievements as a female business owner, the
Council issued a proclamation, signed by C.T. Martin of Council District
10, in her honor. In a 12 month time span, the Indianapolis, IN based
Wilkerson, expanded her digital (print on demand) magazine, into a major
national print distribution situation that has impacted the perception
of print media and its continued value as a news platform. Covering
“News from Hip-Hop to Hollywood,” The Hype Magazine boasts a circulation
of nearly 250,000, with less than 6 months on newsstands; a huge
statement as to the reach of the outlet and the loyalty of its readers.
After
11 years as the #1 digital magazine in the world, The Hype Magazine
extended its reach by adding national newsstand distribution in Nov
2013, to great acclaim. Currently, the outlet boasts more than 200,000
digital subscribers and over two million unique visitors per month to
its online properties. Print distribution became one of the demands of
The Hype Magazine online readers and fans, whose loyalty to the outlet
translated into sold out retail locations across the country for the
print issues.
The
Hype Magazine has treated its readers to featured interviews with new
and emerging artists, including independent artists on the move, via
their “24 Issues of Giving” program which covers artists it considers
“Next to Blow,” before they are covered by other media outlets. This
program has helped ingrain the outlet into the hearts and minds of
hardworking independent artist looking to expand their reach and added
the brand’s name into the entertainment industry vernacular.
“Over
the years, We have covered artists such as Machine Gun Kelly, JD Greer,
Snow Tha Product, Ty Dolla Sign, Tito Lopez, Tony Savo, Caskey,
Mindless Behavior, OMG Girlz, Edubb, Rich Boy, Warped Roadies (Fuse TV)
and more…all of whom are now players on the national stage. For most of
these artists, The Hype Magazine was their first national magazine cover
or feature story,” says Just Jay.
Recent
national artist appearing in The Hype Magazine include Atlantic Records
recording artist K. Michelle, platinum recording artist B.o.B.,
emerging artist Sevyn Streeter (Atlantic Records), Ice Cube and
Nickelodeon’s Nick Cannon, among others.
