Pookey Remakes a Michael Jackson Classic!!!
Pookey Wigington is keeping the music coming as we fall is better into the last quarter of 2014. Next up is the official remake of Michael Jackson's "BAD" album titled "LAUGH".
But don't be fooled by the album's name, this LP is no joke. Pookey spent 3 hours listening to the original “BAD” album before going into the studio to record “LAUGH”. From the sounds of things, 3 hours is all he needed to properly channel the feeling and sound of MJ's voice.
No other song is it more prevalent than on "Joke Criminal (It's Not Okay)” where he not only perfectly captures all of the ad-libs that Michael used on the original version of "Smooth Criminal (Are You Ok?)” but he also flips the lyrics to make them his. Pookey can be found singing, "You've been hit by, you've been hit by a Joke criminal... That's not funny, it's not okay. It's not okay."
There is also a companion video coming next month that will offer visuals to all of the songs as well as a short movie to explain how the songs string together.
When asked, "Why Michael? Why now?" Pookey said, "I woke up one day and I was looking at the man in the mirror, trying to get him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer. If I want to make the world a better place, I have to look at myself and make that change. So I rushed over to the studio like a speed demon and got on the boards to begin laying the tracks for this. They music came naturally as if it was another part of me. But I knew I wanted to tell a story about comedy. I couldn't settle on a title so I told everyone in the studio to just leave me alone and I came up with the name “Laugh” instead of “Bad”.”
